Vintage Design
Small open desk with Napoleon III flap door, made of rosewood-painted walnut, France third quarter 19th century. Top shelf with railing in riser and three drawers in fascia, flap door concealing scarabattolo with drawers fitted with gilt bronze handles, removable secret compartment and cloth insert. The scarabattolo is veneered in maple burl and adorned with bois de rose borders. Carved legs embellished with turned reserves, curls, and pinnacles, culminating in curl feet and connected by transom with upholstered footrest. Except for the legs, the cabinet is decorated with ash reserves. Maple and poplar interiors.
